Fritz Photography, LLC
I am a native Madisonian, and a lifelong Wisconsinite. I was a full-time staff photographer at the Capital Times in Madison, WI from June 1, 1969 to October 1, 1977. I loved being a photojournalist - visually conveying the news and meeting new people every day. Sharing human-interest stories, lifestyles, features, sports, protests and more. Meeting multiple daily deadlines, I learned to respond quickly, and decisively, documenting critical moments in history while remaining open and receptive to everything around me. I met and photographed people across a broad range of cultures, occupations, ages, and walks of life. I learned to respect the dignity of all people. While photographing I am totally focused, energized, and completely immersed in the moment. With my innate sense of composition, appreciation of light, and eye for detail, I have developed the skills, technical expertise, and craft that enable me to share my vision with others, which gives me great joy.
Studying with Ansel Adams for ten days in Yosemite in October 1972 intensified my reverence for the awesome beauty, and power of nature; and the ability of photography to connect us, and be a force for change.
In 1976 I was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in News Photography and The National Society of Professional Journalists honored me with the Sigma Delta Chi Distinguished Service Award in News Photography. Following my newspaper career I freelanced for a variety of commercial clients, hospitals, and media including: The National Geographic Society, the New York Times, TIME, US, USDA, USDE and, and many others. I am still an active member of ASMP [American Society of Media Photographers], NPPA [National Press Photographers Association], and PPA [Professional Photographers of America].
In addition to my editorial and commercial work I also offer fine-art photography for collection and interior design. Color and B&W stock images are also available.
